Supreme Court orders special centers for disabled witnesses
The Supreme Court has ordered all the states and Union territories to set up special centres to record the statements of disabled people.
The court has ordered that the statement of witnesses that are blind, deaf or mute should be taken in the special centres.
This will ensure that the disability of the witness cannot be used as an excuse by the criminals.
In most cases the defence lawyers cite improper examination of disabled people as an excuse in court.
The court said that the provision of special room will also make the disabled witness feel safe while giving statement.
Four such special centres have already been set up at Delhi as per the order of Delhi High Court.
