Dealing with parents of disabled children
Parents of children that have disabilities have a life full of challenges. They have to understand and live with the disabilities of the children and provide care and support. When interacting with them certain things should be considered.
Take permission before talking about the child’s conditions or disability.
If you want to talk to the child ask the parent first if it is ok.
Speak in a normal manner with the parent and child like you do with others.
Do not make stupid comments without knowing the facts.
Do not show pity, it is best to show support and understanding.
Leave them alone if they are not interested to discuss the issues with you. Respect their privacy.
