Learn a new language to slow down brain ageing

Research shows that learning a second language helps slow down the process of brain ageing. This means schools should encourage children to learn at least one language other than their mother tongue.

The effort the brain makes to handle two types of vocabularies and rules of grammar benefits the health in many ways. Those who know many languages also appear to be less rigid and understand things faster than those who stick to just one language.

Experts say it also slows down signs of dementia in the elderly.
