Chennai medical colleges encourage student-teacher interaction

The officials of Madras Medical College have asked professors to keep 10 minutes of their one-hour lecture to get feedback on academic and personal problems of the students.

Also, two mental health counsellors will visit the campus twice a week to communicate with students.

Medical college students mostly find the first and final years of their studies difficult to cope.

So, many medical colleges in Chennai have been told to hold group counselling sessions regularly for students and parents.

The idea is to find out signs of depression, reduce stress levels among students and prevent decision of suicides early.
