Disabled child abandoned by parents, waits to be taken back
A minor girl, who was abandoned six months ago at a railway station in Haridwar, is waiting to go back home. The child was allegedly abandoned by her parents.
She is in a hospital under the supervision of the police, and is hoping her parents will come back for her.
Police say that they are trying their best to find the parents of the abandoned child for the last six months, but have had no success. If they are not able to find them, the child will be sent to a care centre.
Disability rights activists say that every year hundreds of disabled children are abandoned by their parents as they find it hard to take care of them. Once they are abandoned, it is hard to find the parents.
There are many barriers that the disabled still face in India like lack of financial stability and illiteracy, social stigma and lack of care and protection.
