Delhi court angered over careless attitude of police towards mental patients
A city court in New Delhi has expressed anger over the careless attitude of the police towards problems of mental health patients roaming about on roads.
The court said mental health patients are unable to protect and fight for their rights. It is the responsibility of the police to save and treat them with care.
The move came after a naked male body was found on the roadside in a hit-and-run case. The victim's identity was not clear and the police also did not find the person responsible for the accident.
The court asked the Delhi Police commissioner to look into the matter and make rules as well as training programme to make the police aware of their duties in such cases.
