Petition filed in Madras High Court to implement 5% relaxation of marks for the disabled
A petition has been filed at the Madras High Court asking to implement 5% relaxation of marks for the disabled students in joining MPhil and PhD programmes in all universities.
Disabled postgraduate M Kamaraj from Trichy has filed the case saying that many universities are yet to implement the order given by University Grants Commission.
As per the order, the marks needed to join MPhil and PhD is 55% marks in postgraduate degree.
The same order gives relaxation of 5% marks for students from SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer/ disabled) categories.
Due to not following the order in many institutions, many disabled people, including the petitioner are unable to get admission in MPhil and PhD programmes.
The next hearing of the case is on 11 December.
