Punjab University to implement 5% disabled quota
Punjab University is all set to increase the disability reservation from 3 to 5% from the next session.
The increase in the quota for people with disabilities is according to the provisions of the RPWD - Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act of 2016.
Various disabilities are covered under the act, such as, mobility, visual, hearing, speech, intellectual, and mental disabilities, hemophilia, thalassemia, and sickle-cell disease and many more.
Earlier, only disabilities like blindness or low vision, hearing impairment, and mobility disability or cerebral palsy were given reservation.
The student body in the university had asked the management to build ramps at the Student Centre and that will also be done soon.
