Centre to introduce a law to end instant triple talaq

The central government plans to bring a law during the Winter session of Parliament to end the practice of instant triple talaq.

A committee has been made to draft a suitable law which shall make instant triple talaq an offence.

The move has come after the recent case of a professor from Aligarh Muslim University who reportedly divorced his wife on WhatsApp.

The government observed that despite of instructions to the members of the Muslim community, there was no decline in the age-old practice.

In August this year, a bench of the Supreme Court had declared instant triple talaq or talaaq-e-biddat as not agreeing with the constitution of the country.
