Depression cases on rise in medical students of Kerala

A recent report says that depression and stress related burnouts are more common among medical students of Kerala.

The Indian Medical Association had suggested the need to start groups involving medical students and teachers.

The association said that the state university must set up counselling centres in which first and second year undergraduate students can be looked after and their non-academic, personal and economic problems could be discussed.

However, it has not been started yet and is only on paper, says the report.

Meanwhile, experts suggest a system to be made by the university to identify depression cases in medical students and treat them.
