Top Indian universities fail to fill seats for disabled students
A recent survey has revealed the failure of top Indian universities in giving admissions to disabled students.
As per the survey report, 32 top universities and higher education institutions like IITs, IIMs, Jawaharlal Nehru University and Delhi University have not fulfilled the quota for people with disabilities.
These institutions have only 614 disabled people out of a student population of 3.33 lakh, which is just 0.48%.
Whereas, the disabled quota as per the 1995 Disability Act calls for 3% seats to be filled.
The data was collected by the National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People – NCPEDP.
The data reveals the lack of accessibility in education for people with disabilities. This affects the employment of disabled people.
