Make sign language compulsory, demand at a deaf rally in Uttarakhand

A rally was organised by the deaf community at Haridwar recently to demand that sign language be made compulsory in all departments of the Uttarakhand government.

The initiative was organized jointly by Abhiprerna Foundation and Devbhoomi Badhir Association.

The rally was held just a few days before the World Disability Day, which is marked throughout the world.

Deaf people in the rally were holding placards in their hands with messages written on them.

They also demanded that sign language interpreters be appointed to help them communicate with the hearing community.

The idea is to make the deaf a part of the society and inform them of the various schemes provided by the Centre and state government for their welfare.
