International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports 2017 starts in Portugal

The International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports - IWAS World Games 2017 started yesterday in Vila Real de Santo António, Portugal.

The multi-sport competition is for athletes with disabilities, mostly those who use wheelchair.

The athletes will take part in various events such as Archery, Athletics, Para Taekwondo, Swimming & Table Tennis.

IWAS World Games will be held from 30 November to 6 December 2017.

Athletes from 43 countries across the world are to take part in the games.

The 2017 World Games were initially to be held in Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates.

However, the venue was changed to Portugal as Sharjah withdrew last December due to financial reasons.
