Actor Swara Bhaskar speaks up for autism, says films have potential to deliver change

Actress Swara Bhasker, popular for films like Nil Battey Sannata, believes that the film industry is capable of delivering powerful messages to the public. This is especially the case when it comes to raising awareness about social issues.

The actor said this when she was in Kolkata to raise awareness about autism in partnership with the school Autism Centre for Excellence at the launch of a popular skincare brand's new store.

Calling autism, a neurodevelopmental disorder a widely prevalent in India, she said that the disorder has a lot of stigma attached.

Swara said as the film industry has actors with major fan following, they can become messengers to communicate important social issues to their fans.

She said that she was honoured to spread awareness about autism and address negative stereotypes about the disorder. She also said that she was happy that popular brands were helping to change people's perceptions about autism.
