Inter-caste marriages among Dalits get a boost, government to pay them Rs 2.5 lakh
Couples who get married inter-caste and belong to Dalit community will now be paid Rs 2.5 lakh by the government.
The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has ordered states to ensure that this is implemented immediately.
As per the new order, either the bride or the groom should belong to the Dalit community.
Earlier the government paid the inter-caste couples only when their annual income was under ₹5 lakh.
Couples will have to submit their Aadhaar numbers to the relevant department to receive the financial aid after marriage.
The Dr Ambedkar Scheme for Social Integration through inter caste marriage was set up in 2013.
