Kerala High Court stays order for free bus rides for co travelers of PwD
The Kerala High Court has issued a stay on the order of State Commission for Protection of Child Rights asking for free bus travel for people who travel with disabled children.
The Commission had asked the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation - KSRTC to provide free bus travel to those accompanying physically or mentally-challenged children.
However, the KSRTC had appealed against this order in court.
KSRTC is already giving concessions to disabled people.
The KSRTC has claimed that it is providing 50 % concession to physically and mentally-challenged people and the persons accompanying them.
This service is offered up to 40 kilometres from their place of residence in ordinary, city, and fast passenger buses.
The KSRTC has appealed that the order of the commission is illegal and cannot be implemented.
The commission had also ordered the KSRTC that passes for free travel to mentally and physically-challenged children should be given within seven days of submitting applications.
