Transgenders to be hired by Chhattisgarh police
Chhattisgarh police is now taking steps towards becoming an inclusive workforce.
As part of the state’s recruitment policy and following the order of the Supreme Court, the police department is all set to hire transgender constables.
The recruitment of people from the transgender community will be done in the next couple of months.
The recruitment will be done once the candidates appear for a mandatory written exam and physical test and pass both.
As per the ruling of Supreme Court in 2014, the transgender people are recognized as the “third gender and are to be given equal opportunities under the Constitution.
Chhattisgarh police to recruit about 35,000 constables.
Chhattisgarh police will be to recruiting about 35,000 constables.
The physical parameters that will applicable for transgender applicants are still being worked on.
The transgender community falls under the other backward class (OBC) category in Chhattisgarh.
They can avail the 14% reservation in education and government jobs set for the OBC category.
It is hoped that police recruitment of transgenders will encourage inclusion and also encourage the people to come out and not hide their identity.
