Rahul Gandhi is now the president of Congress party
Rahul Gandhi has been declared the President of the Indian National Congress party.
Rahul became the president in an election where he was the only candidate for the post.
No other candidate filed a nomination to contest the presidential elections ensuring the victory of Rahul Gandhi.
Rahul will take over the leadership of the party from his mother Sonia Gandhi.
Sonia has been the longest serving president of congress since 1998 till date.
47-year-old Rahul will be officially given the post on 16 December.
He had been the party Vice President for more than four years since 2013.
Rahul’s election to the post will mark the beginning of a new phase for the party before the 2019 general elections.
