Scheme for senior citizens launched in Meghalaya
Union Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment Krishan Pal Gurjar has launched the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana in Meghalaya.
As part of the scheme, he also distributed physical aid and assisted living devices to senior citizens.
The scheme has been started in the Ri Bhoi district, making it the first district in the Northeast region where a fully-funded Central government scheme has been started.
Vayoshri scheme for senior citizens
The Vayoshri scheme will give out aid to senior citizens above 60 years of age who belong to the BPL category.
The scheme is for old people who have problems like low vision, hearing impairment, loss of teeth and mobility disability.
The assistive devices were given to help them live their life in a better way. The distribution drive will be carried out across Meghalaya in six more camps.
The government has started several other schemes in the region such as cochlear implant surgeries, free of cost, for children under 5 years with hearing disabilities.
