Don't rush to link your bank account to Aadhaar, deadline extended
With the central government withdrawing the December 31 deadline for linking bank accounts with the Aadhaar number, you can wait a little longer. The new date is still not out.
In June, the Narendra Modi government had introduced a new rule that made Aadhaar mandatory to open bank accounts. Even existing bank account holders were asked to furnish their Aadhaar number by 31 December. If they did not follow this, their accounts would cease to be operational.
New accounts were required to submit Aadhaar details within six months of their opening. This new rule is still valid.
The government has also extended the deadline to link your PAN, Permanent Account Number, with Aadhaar by three months.
