1st Mumbai AC local train to be launched on Xmas Day
The first air-conditioned local train on Mumbai's suburban rail network will be launched from Andheri railway station at 2:10 pm on Christmas Day. It will reach Churchgate a little over 30 minutes later.
Special Xmas treat for Mumbaikars!
The Western Railway plans to run a total of 12 services on weekdays, replacing 12 non-AC services. There will be no AC trains on weekends as they are to be kept aside for maintenance.
Of these 12 daily services, eight will be operated on the Churchgate-Virar (Palghar) sector, three between Churchgate-Borivali, with halts at major stations, while one will run as a slow service halting at all stations between Mahalaxmi-Borivali.
The AC local fare will be 1.3 times more than the present first class fare for Mumbai local trains. The current single journey first class fare for Churchgate-Bandra is Rs 70, while the fare for Churchgate-Borivali and Churchgate-Virar is Rs 140 and Rs 170 respectively.
There will be weekly, fortnightly and monthly season tickets available at 5, 7.5 and 10 times of the fare of regular first class ticket rates. There will also be a 5% GST and other applicable charges.
For the first six months, passengers will be given a 10% discount, and AC local ticket holders can travel for free in first class compartments of local trains.
