Mentally disabled children have a unique home in Koraput, Odisha
Manas is the name of a centre for education and vocational training for mentally handicapped children in Koraput. Koraput is a district in the state of Odisha.
The centre has 50 mentally-challenged children, including 10 girls and all of them call it their home.
The children have mental disability and are given emotional support and guidance at Manas to realize their potentials.
The mentally ill children between six and 18 years are selected for admission to the centre through camps that are routinely organized in the region.
The children then remain at Manas till the age of 18 and learn the survival skills needed for the rest of their lives.
They are given basic education and also provided skill learning training such as stitching mosquito nets, candle-making, book binding and screen printing.
This can help them to lead an independent life once they are out of the centre and on their own
