Aadhaar is not compulsory for booking of train tickets

The Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain, has clarified the use of Aadhaar numbers for the booking of train tickets.

While speaking about this in Lok Sabha, the minister said that the Aadhaar is not compulsory for booking rail tickets.

However, the railway department dies encourage the travelers to use their Aadhaar details while booking tickets.

Incentives are offered to people who are linking their Aadhaar with user ID of IRCTC.

Such users are now allowed to book a maximum of 12 tickets every month on the website of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation – IRCTC.

From 1 January 2018, the Aadhaar verification for booking concessional railway tickets for senior citizen has been introduced on voluntary basis.
