Young paraplegic achiever Diksha Dinde awarded for her work

24-year-old Diksha Dinde from Maharashtra received an award at the National Youth Festival for her work in the field of disability rights and education of the poor. Diksha uses a wheelchair to move around as she is a paraplegic from birth with 84% disability.

Rajyavardhan Rathore, the Sports Minister and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath gave away the award. Along with Diksha, 22 other youth were honored at the event for their contributions to various causes.

However, the event was marred by the fact that organisers failed to make the venue disabled friendly and there were no ramps on the stage. Diksha had to be lifted by two people to get on the stage to receive her award.

Diksha is the Global Youth Ambassador for 'A World at School' supported by the United Nations, a post that she will hold till 2020. She has also been teaching the children in slums with the help of NGO Roshni.

Diksha wants underprivileged children to get the benefits of education as she herself faced many challenges in her life. She was denied admission due to her disability.
