This woman can smell Parkinson’s disease in a person
Joy Milne is a retired nurse and has a unique ability to smell and identify Parkinson’s disease.
This amazing person is now helping researchers to develop a diagnostic test for identification of the medical condition that affects millions of people across the world.
Joy Milne has so far helped the scientists by identifying 10 molecules that are linked to Parkinson’s disease.
The woman became aware of her ability when she noticed a change in the way her husband smelled over years before he actually got affected by the disease.
Then she attended a meeting of people with the disease and identified the smell.
Researchers claim that Joy Milne is able to smell the presence of the disease in a person before they actually start feeling its effects.
The researchers are now hoping to train dogs to identify the particular smell so that patients can be identified well before the disease progresses.
