Face recognition for Aadhaar to start from July

The Unique Identification Authority of India – UIDAI has announced that a face authentication feature will be introduced this year.

The feature will be available for Aadhaar users from 1 July 2018.

This feature will be beneficial for people who are not able to authenticate themselves using fingerprints such as elderly and amputees.

The additional face authentication feature will combined with either fingerprint, iris scan, or OTP for successful authentication of an Aadhaar number.

The UIDAI is hopeful that this technology will make the Aadhaar verification more convenient for the people.

UIDAI has also announced a two-layer security mechanism to protect the privacy of Aadhaar users.

The users will soon be able to use a ‘Virtual ID’ instead of using their Aadhaar numbers for verification purposes.
