Lower berth for elderly and women travelers can be booked online
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited -IRCTC has announced that a separate quota has been created for the online ticket booking for lower berths.
This facility will be beneficial for elderly people and women travelling alone.
From 15 January elderly passengers and women can opt for lower berths while booking their train tickets online through the IRCTC website.
The new facility can be availed by elderly passengers who are above 60 years for men and women passengers who are 45 years of age and above.
As per reports, Lower berths reserved under senior citizen and women’s quota in the respective classes will get allotted to them by default.
If the berths are already booked, they will be given berths under general quota.
Earlier there were a limited number of lower berths reserved for elderly travelers and they could only be availed by booking the tickets at Passenger reservation system ticketing counters.
