Punjab Chief Minister finally orders release of pending old age pensions

In a move that has come as a relief to many, the Chief Minister of Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has ordered for the immediate release of pending old age pensions, with strict instructions to regularise payment to beneficiaries.

The orders were given during a meeting to review various schemes of the Department of Social Security and Women and Child Development.

Singh showed concern over the non-payment of pension at many places since April 2017 and said that the process must be made regular by March.

The Punjab government is burdened with a liability of nearly Rs 110 crore per month due to pension arrears and the chief minister directed the department to start releasing the arrears in a gradual manner.
