Wearable device to protect elderly from falls

Elderly people are prone to falling down and that can result in serious injuries. The issue becomes even more dangerous when they are living alone.

A wearable device has been created to ensure that older people remain safe.

FallSkip is a mobile app that runs on a special Android-based mobile device, which can be tied with a custom waistband.

Doctors can use the app to enter the patient’s vitals details and these are used to compute the balance and walking speed of the patient.

The data then revels if an older person is susceptible to falling down. If an elderly person is on a higher risk of falling, their care can be planned accordingly.

Fractures or sprains are a common outcome of falls in older people and this causes much pain and discomfort to them. The fear of falling and losing balance can also affect their daily lives.
