PIL against Junk food is still awaitng a verdict
Rahul Verma is a concerned father who is worried about the harm caused to the health of children due to the consumption of junk food in the country.
His own son was born with digestive ailments but he has seen healthy children falling ill and catching diseases due to the indulgence in junk food.
In 2010, Rahul Verma filed a Public interest lawsuit - PIL in Delhi High Court in 2010, seeking a ban on the sale of junk food and soft drinks in and around schools across India.
His petition led to the court asking the governmnet to set regulations.
However, it met the opposition from All India Food Processors Association, which includes members like Coca-Cola India, PepsiCo India and Nestle India.
The consumption of junk food such as soft drinks and chips can cause diabetes - which can lead to heart disease, kidney failure, blindness and even amputations.
The number of children in India with weight related issues is on a rise and that causes serious health issues as they grow up.
Verma is still waiting for a verdict to be given to ban the sale of junk food in and around schools.
