Hospital staff arrested after patient suffering from depression kills himself
A 26-year-old man, suffering from acute depression, reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself inside a private hospital in Ludhiana. He had been admitted to the hospital on 27 January.
The patient's relatives staged a protest, accusing the hospital of negligence. A case under Section 304A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC has been against the hospital.
The patient's father said that the family had repeatedly requested the hospital that one family member be allowed to stay with him but the hospital rejected their plea on the grounds that a hospital employee will be staying with the patient at all times.
He also accused the hospital staff of leaving him alone for a long tome and of informing the family of the death very late. He also said that the body was sent to the civil hospital for postmortem before he family could reach the hospital.
The owner of the hospital has admitted that the staff on duty was negligent to leave the patient alone.
