High Court rules for lifetime ECHS benefit for disabled ex-servicemen’s kin
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has provided major relief to the disabled members of the Ex-servicemen Contributory Health Scheme- ECHS in its recent judgment.
The ECHS is a scheme that gives healthcare benefits for dependent children of ex-servicemen till the age of 25 years and it is given for life to children that have disabilities.
It was introduced in the year 2002 and at time, age limit was not applicable to physically or mentally disabled children, if they were unable to earn their livelihood due to their disabilities.
In 2017 the facility of life long benefit to disabled children was taken away by the authorities.
Hartegh Singh and Satendar Kumar Chauhan had then petitioned to the court against the withdrawal of ECHS and the court also ruled in their favour.
