Majority of Indian kids miss out on critical vaccinations, says survey
The recently published National Family Health Survey (NFHS) 4 shows that as many as 72.5% of children surveyed in the age group of 12 to 23 months were not getting immunised on time. This age group is crucial in a child's development and immunity-building.
Situation is worst in Manipur with 96.5% children
After Manipur, the figures were worst in Arunachal Pradesh at 90%. Almost all the major states in the country have fared poorly when it comes to age appropriate vaccination. Timing of the vaccination is crucial to make sure the child develops immunity for a given disease at the correct age.
This explains why the infant mortality rate in India is still so high, at 41 deaths per 1,000 live births.
