Racket in issuing of disability certificates in Telangana district under probe

The West Godavari District Collector has ordered an inquiry into the issuance of disabled people’s certificates by the SADAREM Board of Tanuku. This is after a suspicion that the board has been issuing certificates to people who are not eligible.

The aim of creating the SADAREM initiative is to create a web enabled system for comprehensive access, rehabilitation and empowerment of people with disabilities.

At a program held at his office, the Collector took many complaints from local disability rights groups. He said that it had been found that the disability of people who had applied for the pension was observed only 20%. However, the certificate issued by the SADAREM Board shows their disability ranging from 60 to 82%.

An order was issued to verify the 300 certificates issued by SADAREM Board at theTanuku Government Hospital and submit a report within 15 days. If any irregularities were found, the concerned officials are likely to face tough action.
