Haryana to give compensation to construction workers left disabled in workplace accidents
In a welcome move, the Haryana government has notified the Haryana Building and Other Construction Workers Amendment Rules, 2018 to benefit construction workers in the state.
As per the new rules, an amount of Rs 3,000 per person will be given as disability pension to someone who is permanently disabled due to paralysis, leprosy, cancer, tuberculosis and accident.
In addition to the pension, he or she will also get ex-gratia payment of Rs 1.5 lakh for up to 50% disability, Rs 2 lakh for 51-75% disability and Rs 3 lakh for 76% and above of disability.
The board may also sanction Rs 2 lakh to dependents or nominees in case of death. If the death occurs due to accident at the workplace, the dependents would be given financial assistance of Rs five lakh.
