These pins are designed to help reduce anxiety
Francesca Timbers, who lives in the United Kingdom, is always on the lookout for creative and fashionable ways to raise awareness about mental illness. She first launched Motivational Tattoos, which is a line of temporary tattoos shaped like band-aids that have motivating messages for people with anxiety and depression.
She then started self-care stationary, turning her tattoos designs into stickers and creating dissolving thought cloud notepads.
Now, Timbers makes self-care pins modelled after her temporary tattoo designs. They are both fashionable and functional. She decided to make them after she read a study about how tactile objects and fidgeting can reduce anxiety and increase creativity. The pins have a tactile surface that’s meant to be rubbed when the person wearing the pin feels anxious.
Timber got interested in making mental health products from her own personal experience living with depression. As a student of psychology she realised that small things make a big difference.
Each pin has the word 'breathe as a reminder to take a step back and breathe. The pins also come with a breathing exercise card a type of breathing method. The card walks users through the steps - inhale through the nose for a count of four, hold your breath for a count of seven and exhale for a count of eight.
Timbers also donations a portion of her proceeds to mental health charities in the United Kingdom. So far she has raised over £10,000 for a number of NGOS.
