People with albinism being killed due to superstitions in Africa
Albinism is a skin condition that causes complete or partial absence of pigment in the skin, hair and eyes.
This makes the people with albinism look different from others as they tend to have light colored skin hair and eyes. The condition causes the skin to become very sensitive and more prone to sunburn and skin cancers.
The lack of awareness about the condition results in albino people being treated with discrimination in several parts of the world.
In fact in parts of Africa, the condition is connected with a deep rooted superstitions. Some tribes in Africa believe that the bodies of albino people can be used in witchcraft rituals.
This has led to violent attacks and even murders of people with albinism in parts of Africa.
The situation has become worse and albinos are hunted for their body parts making it unsafe for them to venture out alone.
