Punjab government to spread awareness about mental health
The Health Department of Chandigarh in Punjab has decided to conduct training, camps and classes for the medical and paramedical staffs of the government hospitals in order to promote awareness on mental health.
According to a report that was published last year in April, nearly 22 lakh people in the state of Punjab are suffering from different kinds of mental illnesses. The report was published by department of psychiatry at the Government Medical College and Hospital in Chandigarh (GMCH) along with National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) in Bengaluru. People living in Ludhiana, Moga, Faridkot, and Patiala were used for the survey.
Many people, both teenagers and adults, had terrible impacts on their mental state over the years. According to the study, more than 3 lakh people who are above 18 years are suffering from depression.Keeping this in mind, the government has decided to start awareness on mental health. The government also granted Rs 75,000 for the project.
Recognizing symptoms of various mental disorders, counselling etc. will be done in order to help the patients.
