Retinal diseases – The most common cause of blindness
India has the largest population of people with visual impairments and the number is expected to rise to 15 million by the year 2020.
As per data, diseases of the Retina are the most common reason behind the loss of vision as compared to other reasons. Retina is the part of the eye where images are formed and signals are sent to the brain and issues in the retina can hamper vision.
Age-related macular degeneration - AMD and diabetic macular edema – DME, are the two forms of retinal disorders that are the most serious of Retinal issues.
Both AMD and DME can be treated and managed with medicines if they are diagnosed in time as too much delay can worsen the degrading of vision beyond correction.
Some common symptoms of retinal issues are fuzzy and unclear vision, contrast difference and color sensitivity in eyes.
To make sure that eye problems are detected in time, it becomes vital to get regular eye checkups. Taking care of health, hygiene is also important for the good condition of eyes.
