Breakout of acne can lead to depression

A recent study has found out that patients who are suffering from acne have an increased risk of depression, especially within one year of acne diagnosis. The study has found out that acne is mostly seen in females, especially teenagers. Most of them are non-smokers and do not drink either. They are mostly from higher socio-economic status as well.

Researchers say that the depression due to acne only lasts for 5 years from when they are diagnosed. The risk of depression is always higher in the first year.

A British database was used by the researchers. 134,427 men and women with acne and 1,731,608 without acne were used by researchers for arriving into this conclusion. The study was conducted over a period of 15 years. The probability of developing major depression was 18.5 percent among patients with acne and 12 percent in those without acne.
