Deepika Padukone calls depression the next epidemic in India

She battled depression at the peak of her career and was brave enough to talk about it. And its a subject that actor Deepika Padukone clearly feels strongly about.

At the final session of the World Congress IT and Nasscom India Leadership Forum, she again raised the issue and said that people have to understand what depression is all about. She called it the next big epidemic in India and asked more people to talk about it.

She said that stigma is the biggest issue and that needs to change. People have to understand that its okay to be vulnerable and seek help. She said she was able to cope as her mother saw the first signs and helped her.

She also asked companies to not treat people with mental illness differently and instead regard it with empathy.
