Indian men & women's cricket teams beat South Africa to clinch T201 series
It was a great day for the men and women's cricket teams of India. Both beat South Africa in the T20i series.
First the women. The team beat South Africa by 54 runs in the fifth and final T20I to register a double series win on the South African tour. The side led by Harmanpreet Kaur displayed an all-round performance as they outclassed the Dane van Niekerk-led team, bowling them out for 112 to lift the T20 series trophy by a margin of 3-1.
India lost opener Smriti Mandhana cheaply for 13, but senior player Mithali Raj and youngster Jemimah Rodrigues steadied the Indian side with patient and skillful batting.
New pair, Harmanpreet Kaur and Veda Krishnamurthy, provided the last flourish and helped India reach a competitive total of 166/4. While Harmanpreet scored 27 off 17 balls, including one four and two sixes, Krishnamurthy scored 8 off six balls.
For South Africa, wickets fell like a pack of cards as South Africa lost four wickets inside nine overs. The top four batswoman departed for 3, 10, 5 17 runs respectively.
This victory is a boost for the Indian team as they had won a T20I series against Australia prior to this as well.
Men's side clinch series 2-1
The men's side beat South Africa by 7 runs in the third and final T20I at Cape Town to clinch the three-match series 2-1. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the star as he gave away only 11 off the last over when South Africa needed 19 to win.
Christiaan Jonker played brilliantly at the end to keep South Africa in the game after the rest of the team failed to match up to the asking rate right through the innings.
South African captain JP Duminy batted well and scored 55 before getting dismissed. At the end South Africa could only manage 165 for 6.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar was adjudged as the man of the series, while Suresh Raina was man of the match.
