Central government re-affirms commitment to protect disabled people
The Union Minister for Social justice and Empowerment, Ramdas Athawala, has said that the central government is fully committed to protect the needs and interests of the weaker sections of society, including people with disabilities.
The minister has been holding review meetings with senior officials of states like Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh to look at how schemes are working on the ground.
The minister said that the central government, in collaboration with state governments, has organized over 7,000 camps for physically disabled people. These camps provide information, and create awareness.
Over nine lakh people with disabilities have also been provided with different types of assistive aids by the government.
