The financial frauds carried out by jeweller Nirav Modi has affected the staff working at the various jewellery stores owned by him across India. These include many hearing and speech impaired employees. Authorities have shut down all the Gitanjali Gems stores across the country.

Some of these employees, who are hearing and speech impaired, had been working under Modi for the past 10 years. Their spouses have disabilities as well. They were the only bread winners for their families and they say they have not been paid their salaries for the last two months.

The provident funds of all the workers are on hold as well. The staff has written to the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation, hoping this will lead to some clarity regarding their PFs, gratuity, salaries and other benefits.
