Reality TV show judge Papon quits after being accused of kissing a minor
Indian singer Angarag Papon Mahanta aka Papon has quit as a judge in the singing reality TV show 'The Voice India Kids' after he was seen kissing a minor girl participant.
The singer was recorded on camera while kissing an 11 year old girl on the sets of the show. The act became a huge controversy for the playback singer and he had to leave the show.
A Supreme Court lawyer, Runa Bhuyan filed a complaint with National Commission for Protection of Child Right against Papon for alleged “sexual assault” of a minor contestant.
On Friday, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights issued a notice to singer Papon and TV channel &TV.
The Maharashtra State Commission for Women also took notice of the allegations and have decided to send a notice to the singer.
In Guwahati, the Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has also filed a complaint against Papon with the Guwahati police commissioner.
42 year old Papon is part of the electronic folk fusion band Papon and The East Indian Company.
The singer claims innocence and has said that the kiss was out of affection for the girl and was not a sexual act.
