Narcolepsy - A form of neurological disorder
Narcolepsy is a form of neurological disorder that affects sleep cycle of a person severly.
It can cause symptoms such as periods of excessive daytime sleepiness that usually last from seconds to minutes and may occur at any time.
The sleep takes control over the person and they are forced to sleep irrespective of the time of the day.
The disorder may sound like fun, it is definitely not so for people who have it.
Henry Nicholls is a journalist and author who has been suffering from narcolepsy for 20 years. Nicholls has a severe sleep disorder and suffers lapses and blackouts.
He also has other symptoms like excessive daytime sleepiness, sleep paralysis, hypnagogia, and cataplexy.
Hypnagogia can cause the mind to feel terror while going in or coming out of sleep.
Cataplexy causes the person to collapse physically when faced with strong emotion or laughter. Although the person remains conscious, they become immobile for a time being.
For others like him, living a normal life becomes quite difficult. People with narcolepsy cannot always work in a normal office as they may fall asleep.
Such people can definitely not work in jobs that involve risks.
