Tamil Nadu home for elderly to be shut down after reports of elder abuse
The St Joseph’s Hospice in Tamil Nadu’s Chengalpet will be shut down immediately. The senior citizens living there are being shifted to other homes by the state government.
This is after news reports that the hospice ambulance was caught transporting two senior citizens and a corpse in a truck that was made to look like an ambulance. An old woman was screaming for help from inside. It was found that she was being taken without her permission.
An inquiry revealed that the hospice was operating without a license. Reports are that 86 of the senior citizens at the hospice were being kept there without their permission. St Joseph’s Hospice has several branches in Tamil Nadu.
There have been many complaints in the past that the hospice was involved in an illegal organ trade racket.
