Kerala Police to start new helpline service for senior citizens
The Kerala Police, along with telecom company BSNL, will start a helpline for senior citizens in the state.
This helpline will connect senior citizens to the police stations nearest to their location.
Senior police officials said that all police stations in the state have been informed about this new helpline for senior citizens. The number will be effective very soon.
The new helpline number will be of great help to senior citizens who live alone. The new system is such that if the phone’s receiver is picked up for 10 seconds, it gets connected to the nearest police station.
This helpline system for senior citizens was first put into effect in the town of Pala in the Kottayam district of Kerala. More than 20 houses were given this helpline facility. It was very successful. This led to the move to extend the service to the entire state of Kerala.
The helpline will also identify callers as part of the hotline facility. The charges levied for this service will be like those for regular calls. No extra charges will be levied for this facility.
