Election results for 3 northeast India states today, BJP ahead in Tripura
Results are coming out for elections in Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland.
The BJP is set to form the next government in Tripura. This is a historic win for the party, which has tied up the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT).
Tripura has been under the CPM-led Left Front for the last 25 years. This time the party had a good start, but was soon trailing behind the BJP.
The Congress has had a poor showing in Tripura. It had won 10 seats in the 2013 assembly polls.
Here too, the vote is against the Congress. There are strong chances of the BJP forming a government here with other parties. The National People's Party is ahead of the rest. Its leader has shown a desire to form a partnership with the BJP. The BJP is leading in 5 seats here.
Nagaland chief minister T R Zeliang of the Naga People's Front is leading at the moment. The BJP is in an alliance here with the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP). The BJP-NDPP alliance is in close contest with the NPF.
In conclusion, the BJP has made gains in elections in all three states.
