Movies with characters portraying disabilities win Oscar awards

The 90th Academy Awards were given away on Monday.

The Best Picture award went to The Shape Of Water.

The film also swept the Best Director award, for Guillermo del Toro. .

The film's lead character is a speech impaired person, who falls in love with an aquatic creature.

Gary Oldman won the Best Actor award, while Frances McDormand won the Oscar for Best Actress. Coco was named Best Animated Feature Film.

The Silent Child, about a four-year-old deaf girl, won in the Best Short Film category.

Frances McDormand urged all the women present at the ceremony to stand up when she was on the stage. She called on them to realize their power and potential.
